PPDG Penthouse by Hernandez Silva Arquitectos

The penthouse PPDG is located on the 15th floor of an old building built in the 70s Mexican colonial style. The structure is based on columns and slabs which allowed the elimination of walls and expanding spaces. The intention was to create a contemporary and respectful project.

DONT LOOK DOWN!!

A characteristic feature of the project is that a volume that was originally intended for a second elevator and was never installed becomes a powder room with a glass floor that looks down all the 15 levels, the PPDG penthouse is a great versatile modulated space, with great views all this with the concepts of transparency and the simplicity of materials

Final Project -  PLACE MAKING & SPACE SHAPING

Chosen brief; Camira Fabrics
In this time of uncertainty where re-evaluation of all that is necessary, relevant or desired, the textile supplier Camira Fabrics, a local company with far reaching international appeal, is considering options for alternative markets.
For this they are asking for proposals to design a ‘neutique hotel’ as a new market sector for Camira to develop. Within this brief you have two choices:
1. Design the Lobby and the Bar/Restaurant
2. Design the Lobby and suite of bedrooms [pay scale option clearly
identified; is it the budget suite, the mid range or penthouse?]Neutique hotels [design hotel / lifestyle hotel] offer a more   intimate and unique option, that focuses and identifies niche customer groups, developing an individualised approach to design rather than a roll out, generic approach, which more commonly adopted.
This brief ‘Is all about the audience/user....’
You will need to research into a given customer, lifestyle profile; and develop key understanding of this niche audience group to help you to develop a project concept narrative, that will drive the decisions you make in the project not only aesthetically but functionally as well.

Heavy metal music listeners are stereotyped as long haired, tattooed and drenched in leather and denim. Therefore the concept relates to those who may have an interest with this genre yet don’t comply with the appearance given by others. As Metel is situated in the business city of Leeds, a high end market factor has also played a part within the interior. To capture a link between the heavy metal niche market venues within the city a ‘jam session’ space is provided to further attract live music without a performance feel.

ICE BAR
BY ICEHOTEL

The UK's only permanent bar made of ice. ICEBAR by ICEHOTEL, a cold sensory environment where the walls, bar, tables and even your own personal glass are made of the purest ice.
A concept at the very heart of ICEBAR by ICEHOTEL is that everything inside is made from crystal clear
Torne River ice which is harvested from the pristine winter wonderland of Jukkasjarvi in Northern Sweden.
Every Autumn, a team of ICEHOTEL’s artists and ice designers carve Torne River ice into a new theme
and layout using chisels and chainsaws therefore every design is different from the next.

Mazzo - Concrete Architectural Associates

mazzo amsterdam restaurant interior design

This is a typical Amsterdam building: the space is narrow and very deep fused together with different floor and ceiling levels, which automatically provides a natural position for the restaurant. Located in Rozengracht, has a ceiling height of five feet and the face is directed outward. Size is perfect for a bar, where guests can order a quick espresso or a drink at the bar that high. Lighting of the series Bestlite by GUBI create intimacy in this space. wall lights above the chesterfield sofa nine yards and suspension lights on the bar and bar at xs and XL sizes create an atmosphere of the living room.

Material sets the tone for the interior design of raw and honest: power floated concrete, cracked brick, stone, pine wood and raw steel. The first three ingredients are part of the skin of the building, all new materials are steel and wood. The window frames on the cabinet and mezzanine floor in front of aclassic restaurant is really made of crude steel. Steel beams and columns are affected and extra floors provided with metal mesh expanded untreated. Use honest and simple ingredients do not interfere with the eyes of the guests’ and underlines the fact that the restaurant focuses on food.

Jamie's Italian
Gives a true feel of Italy
A truly Italian societal and culinary experience, designed in such a style so as to bring what is best about casual dining to the high street. The aim here was to create an environment with a neighbourhood feel, which was inspired by the Italian table where people are able to relax, share and enjoy each others company.

CORTEN STEEL
Weathering steel, best-known under the trademark COR-TEN steel and sometimes written without the hyphen as "Corten steel", is a group of steelalloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the weather for several years.

"Weathering" means that due to their chemical compositions, these steels exhibit increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion compared to other steels. This is because the steel forms a protective layer on its surface under the influence of the weather. The corrosion-retarding effect of the protective layer is produced by the particular distribution and concentration of alloying elements in it. The layer protecting the surface develops and regenerates continuously when subjected to the influence of the weather. In other words, the steel is allowed to rust in order to form the 'protective' coating.
Weathering steel is popularly used in outdoor sculptures, such as in the large Chicago Picasso sculpture, and as exterior facades, for its rustic antique appearance. Examples include The Angel of the North, Gateshead, UK and the Humanities and Arts complex at Leeds Metropolitan University - Broadcasting Place - Leeds, UK

Explorations in design dialogues. Given word; Aperture
The size of the opening of the lens determines the amount of light given in the scene about to be captured. This can also be interpreted through sculpture, form and shape along with the feature of light. Changing features of these can determine a new quality to the image....

....The large the hole of the lens the larger value of light
